Katharine Kosinski, M.D.
Retired Physician and ESOL Tutor
As a physician at Cambridge Health Alliance, Kathy Kosinski had become acutely aware of how critical language skills are for immigrants looking for work. So, when she was invited to a Friends of the Community Learning Center supper in her neighborhood in Cambridgeport and learned about the Friends work for the CLC, she signed right up. Kathy and her husband Rick have been generous supporters ever since. Kathy has also participated in a reciprocal language program at MIT, teaming up with a native Japanese speaker to help her improve her English.
“I had walked past the Community Learning Center many times over the years, but did not know anything about it until I attended this wonderful dinner and met staff and students from the Center. I could see it was a very good group, doing a lot of important things. Because we deal with so many immigrants at the Cambridge Health Alliance, I know how critical good language skills are to their futures in America. The Learning Center helps hundreds of immigrants each year improve their lives and I am glad I can support their efforts through the Friends. Now that I am retired, I have been able to be a teaching assistant in one of the classes.” — Katharine Kosinski
