SYWARE News: Visual CE and mEnable Can Now Directly Access Microsoft Excel Files

At the request of our users, we reexamined the Visual CE synchronizer and mEnable in regards to Microsoft Excel files. As it turns out, by making some changes to our products, we are able to work around some of the quirks in the Excel ODBC driver. Consequently, there are many cases where the Visual CE synchronizer and mEnable can directly access an Excel file. We will roll these into our next release, but we can send these changes to version 11 licensees on request. See the February 2009 Tip of the Month for more details.

SYWARE News: SYWARE Support Policy Clarification.

Our official support policy is that we provide 30-days free tech support and after that we charge on an hourly basis ($100 / hour). In reality, as long as you have the current release, we will answer your questions (within reason). When you contact us for support, please be prepared to let us know where and when you purchased your license so we can check for support eligibility. Thank you for your cooperation.

Technical Tip from "Dr. DeeBee": Changing the mEnable Manager's IP Address

The first time you run the mEnable Manager on the handheld, you are asked for the IP address of the mEnable server. When a connection is established the first time, this IP address is saved in the handheld so you do not have to reenter it on subsequent mEnable Manager sessions. But, it is possible you might want to change mEnable's IP address.

Mobile Industry News: Palm Says Goodbye to the Palm OS

Normally, we only report news about Windows Mobile, but this story about the end of Palm OS is worth mentioning. Palm, the company that invented the PDA, is bidding farewell to the Palm OS, a platform that helped make PDAs and (later) smartphones ubiquitous. Read about this here.
